 Pilates

Pilates is a complete exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates over the course of a lifetime, it is dedicated to improving both physical and mental health.

It focuses on building your body’s core strength, as well as improving your posture, through a series of low impact stretching and conditioning exercises. Core strength relates to your back, stomach and pelvic muscles. You will develop these muscles without adding bulk, and will also add to your control, power, flexibility, and agility.

Pilates also improves your body awareness and helps you appreciate how your body should move. This makes it particularly helpful for athletes and those with chronic problems who will have altered the their movements to avoid pain.

These exercises can improve your athletic performance and be very effective if applied appropriately, in helping to manage long term pain and dysfunction.

I am passionate about the difference that Pilates can make to my clients. I believe that it can be adapted for every client, however intense their symptoms are and I believe that it can make long term changes to client's wellbeing. I trained with The Australian Pilates and Physiotherapy Institue (APPI) and DMA Clinical Pilates and love to utilise both matwork and reformer sessions to aid my clients recovery.

Reformer Pilates

Reformer Pilates was invented by Pilates founder Joseph Pilates. The practice is on a bed-like frame that uses different weighted spring combinations to create resistance when we move the carriage back and forth.

Using a reformer bed means you can target those small muscle groups, which helps to form long, lean muscles. You can do more exercises than what’s possible on the mat and have a play with a wide range of movements – from sitting and lying on your back or side to balancing on your knees and using your feet.

Many clients come to reformer Pilates for injury prevention and rehabilitation.

I offer 1:1 Reformer Pilates sessions and my reformer also has an integrated Cadillac frame to expand the amount of exercises available.

Matwork Pilates

Matwork Pilates is a safe and effective way of rehabilitating after an injury and also is a wonderful way to maintain body strength, mobility and wellness. Research shows the practice improve body awareness and spinal and pelvic alignment, which helps us to perform exercises without placing unnecessary stress on our muscles and joints.

The practice has been found to:

  • Strengthen major muscle groups

  • Improve tone and assist in weight loss

  • Build core strength

  • Increase flexibility and range of motion

  • Improve balance and stability

  • Calm and focus the mind

I offer 1:1 or 1:2 matwork sessions which are tailored to your personal needs and goals. I also offer small group classes for for those who would wish to be in a private group.
